FAQ
What is Counselling?
Counselling is a process of self-discovery which involves you and your therapist working together to explore the events, situations and relationships in your life that are creating diffculties for you. Counselling works towards understanding your experiences and life events, make sense of your responses to them and the actions you take.
Counselling can help you acquire new, effective and helpful ways of dealing with life's eventualities. Each session gives you the time and space to express feelings in a safe and secure environment.
You will neither be judged, nor will you be put under pressure to do or feel anything. The counsellor will help you find solutions that are realistic and workable for you. Counselling is NOT advice giving but does involve explanation, seeking clarity and giving feedback.
Do I Need To See A Counsellor?
There is a common misconception that your situation should be extreme in order to see a counsellor and while some people's circumstances are extreme, there are many people who just need some space to be heard, to be supported and to be understood. While it may help to talk to your family or friends, this can sometimes be difficult as they may have their own problems or there may be the fear of being judged, rejected or feeling ashamed. The counsellor will ensure your privacy is respected and you are listened to in a non-judgemental manner with empathy and understanding.
What will the session be like?
We will work together towards the changes that you want to make in your life. I strive to ensure that you feel secure and comfortable in sharing the information you want to discuss in a safe, non-judgemental environment.
How long will each session last?
Sessions are booked to last for 50 minutes. If you think you may need more time, please mention this when booking your appointment as this can often be arranged.
How many sessions will I need?
This will be entirely up to you, part of the counselling process is reviewing how it is helping with the issues you bring to the sesisons. It is helpful to have a session once per week initially.
Will my information be kept confidential?
Your privacy is taken very seriously. Any information discussed during counselling will be kept confidential. The boundaries of confidentiality will be discussed with you during the first session.
